Outdoor Learning
We believe in creating learning experiences that equip our young people in their daily school life and beyond. Outdoor learning is an integral part of our school curriculum and allows all learners to experience active learning in a variety of settings.
Outdoor learning fully supports our vision and values by offering every learner at least one lesson outside a week; either in the forest, pond, Jo’s garden, or other areas of the school grounds. This allows our young people to develop as well-rounded individuals. All lessons correspond directly with the work being done in class and enhance our learners’ knowledge of taught subjects. Regular outdoor learning also improves health and wellbeing, broadens the learning experience and makes learning more accessible to all learners.
“Placing children in the outdoors for learning allows for increased engagement of the senses, engaging sight, sound, smell and touch. This may allow for more attentive, and a richer form, of learning”. Wilderness Schooling (2017)
We work in partnership with Grow to School to ensure that the lessons are of the highest quality and that they fit seamlessly with our long-term planning.
